Well that’s round 1 of BBI country in the books!

The Stingers travelled to Inverell this past weekend and seen some solid results. We welcomed some new players who not only experienced rep indoor cricket for the first time but excelled in the game, We also seen the return of some former and past players who have been welcomed back into the Stinger family.

Mens 1

The boys in Mens 1 had a tough start to the season going 0-3 against Newcastle Steel, Inverell Falcons and Tamworth Inland Vipers. While it was 3 losses its to be noted that the lads had 2 close heart breaking defeats on Saturday loosing by 4 to Inverell and by 1 against the Vipers. Sunday seen a loss to the experienced and defending champions Newcastle Steel.

These lads are a talented bunch of cricketers and they are not far away from their absolute best cricket. They currently sit in 4th position on 5 points and a strong showing in Maitland will have them in the hunt for semi finals.

Mens 2

The defending champions in Mens 2 take on a different looking competition this year with the 4 teams in the division being Newcastle Steel, Maitland Minotaurs and Inverell Falcons

Game 1 was a replay of last years grand final against Newcastle steel and the stingers walked away with the chocolates, The good form continued with the aging 2s side going 3-0 for the weekend. They currently sit top of the table on 20 pts and are 9pts clear of second place.

Mens 3

This year seen the introduction of some new young talent in 3s along with some experience players dropping back and returning to the rep scene.

The 3s competition this year sees 5 teams including Newcastle steel, Maitland Minotaurs, Inverell Falcons and Tamworth Inland Vipers. The boys went 0-3 for the weekend but plenty of positives came out as the pushed competition favourites Newcastle Steel all the way and seen the emergence of some extremely talented young cricketers. They will be all the stronger for the run and they currently sit in 4th position on 3 points.

Masters

The ever strong masters lads had a great weekend going 2-3 and had strong showings against Maitland and Tamworth while running into a crackerjack Steel side on Sunday. Its worth noting that the Newcastle steel side of 8 players had either played for NSW or Australia and are probably the competition favourites but our boys held their own and we will be backing them to get over the line. The masters sit in second place on 16 points and a strong showing in the next few rounds have them looking good for a finals birth.

Congratulations to all players on a great weekend and a massive thank you to all partners and supporters who made the trek to follow and support. Having you all there cheering and supporting us is an amazing experience and something that we can not thank you enough for.

Lastly to Mike Steinmetz and Vicky Steinmetz thank you again for another weekend away and all you do organising and volunteering your time towards us stingers, Can’t wait to do it all again in June at Maitland.
